Oklahoma City, OK – Strong northwest winds continue to whip across Oklahoma this afternoon, with gusts approaching 45 to 50 mph expected through Saturday evening, prompting multiple Wind Advisories statewide.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Norman and Tulsa, advisories remain in effect until 6 p.m. for most of the state, including Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Enid, Lawton, and Ponca City. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph are creating dangerous crosswinds for drivers, especially those operating high-profile vehicles on open highways.

The Weather Service reports that tree limbs may be blown down and isolated power outages could occur as the gusts continue. Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and trash bins to prevent damage or debris hazards.

In eastern Oklahoma, including Tulsa, Creek, and Okmulgee Counties, wind gusts are peaking near 40 mph, while western and northwestern areas are seeing the strongest winds, topping 50 mph at times.

Winds are expected to gradually diminish after sunset, though temperatures will drop quickly behind the cold front moving across the region.
