TULSA, Okla. — Thunderstorms moving into eastern Oklahoma Tuesday could bring heavy rainfall and localized flooding through Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, the region faces a slight risk of excessive rainfall, with storm totals generally expected between 0.5 and 1.5 inches, though some locations could receive up to 3 inches.

Forecasters say storms may develop during the day Tuesday and continue into the overnight hours, affecting communities across eastern Oklahoma and parts of northwest Arkansas.

Along with heavy rainfall, some storms could produce gusty winds and hail, though the overall tornado threat currently appears limited.

The heaviest rain could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas, small creeks, and roadways, especially where storms repeatedly move over the same locations.

Officials encourage residents to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions as storms approach.

Drivers are also reminded to avoid flooded roadways, following the safety message: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

The timing of storms could affect evening travel Tuesday across the Tulsa metro area and surrounding communities.
