TULSA, OK – Northwest winds howl across the plains this morning, rattling windows and scattering leaves as Oklahoma braces for its first early-December weather challenge. After a blustery Sunday, forecasters say a wintry mix of light freezing rain and spotty snow could develop early Monday, creating slick travel conditions across northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a light glaze of ice—up to a tenth of an inch—may form on bridges, overpasses, and untreated rural roads between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday. Even a thin layer could cause hazardous travel for commuters and early freight routes along I-44 and U.S. 412.

Temperatures remain near 35°F today, with cold air deepening into the mid-20s Monday morning. Winds ease to around 10 mph, but the chill will linger through Tuesday. Sunshine returns by Tuesday afternoon, offering a brief thaw before another weak front brushes the region by late week.

Meteorologists emphasize that freezing rain events like this can create invisible hazards, especially when pavement temperatures hover near freezing. Residents are urged to check tire pressure, avoid abrupt stops, and allow extra time for the Monday commute.

Five-Day Outlook (Tulsa Area)

  • Monday: High 35°F, chance of freezing rain or light snow early.

  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high 52°F.
