Oklahoma – Dry grass rustles under a sharp west wind this morning, and the air already feels parched across Oklahoma City. Temperatures sit in the mid-50s, but humidity continues to fall as sunshine takes hold.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. CST for much of central, western and northern Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City. West winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. Relative humidity may drop as low as 8 to 15 percent. Afternoon highs will climb into the mid-60s.
That combination creates explosive fire growth potential. Any spark could spread rapidly through dry fuels. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Avoid parking vehicles over tall grass and secure trailer chains to prevent sparks along I-40 and I-35 corridors.
Conditions gradually improve tonight as winds turn northwest and humidity recovers. Lows fall into the lower 30s under mostly clear skies.
Friday stays sunny with a high near 58. Saturday brings another bright day near 53 degrees. Winds remain breezy at times, but humidity levels improve compared to today.
Sunday and Monday hold steady in the mid-50s with mostly sunny skies. A warming trend builds into early next week, with highs approaching the upper 60s by Tuesday and near 70 by midweek. Spring warmth begins to edge into Oklahoma after this critical fire weather setup.
