OKLAHOMA CITY – The week begins quiet across central Oklahoma, but a brewing system to the west promises a much louder finish. As dawn breaks this Tuesday, skies remain clear and winds are light—ideal conditions before a stretch of wet, stormy weather takes hold by late Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Norman reports calm sunshine today and Wednesday, with highs climbing into the upper 70s. Winds shift southerly Wednesday afternoon, drawing warmer and more humid air into the Oklahoma City metro. This moisture return sets the stage for the next round of thunderstorms, expected to arrive late Thursday and persist through Friday.

By Thursday morning, clouds will begin to build, and isolated showers may pop up along the I-35 corridor. Thunderstorms become more organized by evening, with a 60% chance of rain and possible lightning late Thursday night. Some storms could produce gusty winds and heavy downpours, particularly west of the metro. Drivers along I-40 and I-44 should prepare for slower commutes and slick roads during the Friday morning rush.

Friday remains unsettled, with additional showers likely through midday and highs near 72°F. Behind the system, conditions ease just in time for the weekend—Saturday brings scattered clouds and highs near 68°F, while Sunday turns drier and slightly warmer.

Though this week’s setup doesn’t carry a severe weather signal yet, early fall patterns like this often mark the return of active Oklahoma thunder season, reminding residents to refresh weather alerts and review safety plans.
