Tulsa, Okla. – Oklahoma drivers should stay alert Friday evening as a cold front pushes into the state, raising thunderstorm chances from Tulsa to Fayetteville. Evening plans, including high school football, could be interrupted by showers and lightning, especially for travelers along I-44.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a slight risk for storms will develop late Friday and continue into Friday night. The strongest activity is expected in far northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas, though isolated storms could spread as far south as Tulsa County.
While widespread severe weather is not expected, storms may bring gusty winds and dangerous lightning. Outdoor events Friday evening should have backup shelter options ready. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds on wet roads and avoid travel during heavy downpours.
The front will clear the area by early Saturday, leaving behind cooler and drier fall-like air. Saturday and Sunday will feature highs in the upper 70s to low 80s with lower humidity. Sunshine will dominate most of the weekend, a welcome change after Friday’s unsettled weather.
Another stretch of calm, seasonable conditions holds from Sunday into midweek. Winds will remain light, skies mostly sunny, and overnight lows comfortable in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Residents should prepare for Friday evening storms but can look forward to a classic early fall weekend across eastern Oklahoma.
