Tulsa, Oklahoma – Residents across northeast Oklahoma should prepare for a potentially active and disruptive Thursday as showers and thunderstorms increase overnight and continue through the day, with a risk for strong to severe storms impacting the morning commute and midday hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, thunderstorms are expected to develop after midnight and expand across the region toward sunrise Thursday. The most likely window for severe weather in the Tulsa metro and areas north runs from early morning through early afternoon, while locations farther south and east may see storms persist into mid to late afternoon.

The primary threat with these storms is strong to locally damaging wind gusts, with speeds potentially reaching 60 mph. Small hail is also possible, though widespread large hail is not expected. The tornado threat remains limited at this time. Periods of heavy rain could lead to reduced visibility and ponding on roads, especially north of Interstate 40 where rainfall totals may be higher.

Cities including Tulsa, Bartlesville, Muskogee, McAlester, Miami, and nearby communities could see storms overlap with peak travel times Thursday morning. Drivers are urged to allow extra time, use caution on wet roads, and stay weather-aware.

Unseasonably warm and breezy conditions continue today ahead of the storms, with elevated grass fire danger this afternoon before rain arrives. Cooler and drier weather is expected to settle in by Friday and continue into the weekend, but additional updates and possible warnings may be issued as storms approach. Residents should ensure multiple ways to receive weather alerts through Thursday.
