Norman, Oklahoma – Strong thunderstorms could sweep across western and central Oklahoma late Monday into early Tuesday, bringing the risk of hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a marginal risk for severe weather is in place from midnight until 8 a.m. Tuesday. Storm hazards include hail up to the size of quarters and wind gusts reaching 60 mph. Counties under threat include Woodward, Enid, Clinton, Lawton, and Ponca City.

The storms could cause tree damage, power outages, and dangerous driving conditions on highways such as I-40 and I-35 during early morning commutes. Emergency officials urge residents to stay weather-aware overnight, charge devices, and review severe weather safety plans.

Though tornado potential remains low, localized rotation cannot be ruled out. This system marks another round of active June weather for Oklahoma, following a spring marked by above-average severe storm days.

Storm activity is expected to shift east by mid-morning Tuesday, but more severe weather is possible later in the week.
