OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Fall hits full force across Oklahoma this Monday as fierce southwesterly winds race across the plains, driving dust over highways and rattling signs along I-40 and I-35. Gusts near 45 mph will make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles and could down small limbs before calmer, cooler air moves in by Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Wind Advisory remains in effect through 1 p.m. CDT today for much of central and western Oklahoma, stretching from Enid to Lawton and east into Shawnee. Sustained winds near 30 mph may briefly exceed 40 mph across open country, reducing visibility and creating crosswinds for truck traffic. Motorists are urged to secure loads, delay travel if possible, and stay alert for sudden gusts.

By late afternoon, winds ease and skies clear as a drier, cooler pattern builds. Highs drop from the mid-80s today to the mid-70s Tuesday, then hover near 78 °F Wednesday under bright, calmer skies. Meteorologists hint at a weak cold front Thursday that could spark scattered showers and perhaps a thunderstorm or two east of I-35. Behind it, cooler air may deliver the first hints of a Fall Freeze into northern counties late Friday or early Saturday, especially near Enid and Ponca City.

Residents should prepare for a quick temperature slide late week—bring in sensitive plants, check space heaters, and plan fall yardwork before the chill deepens. While no snow is expected yet, early signals show winter’s first touch edging closer before Halloween.
