OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – A soft curtain of sleet and light snow falls across the metro this morning, turning highways slick and windshields frosted. Temperatures hover in the mid-30s, but north winds up to 20 mph make it feel far colder. For now, traffic creeps along I-40 and I-35, headlights cutting through mist and freezing drizzle.
The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 3 PM, warning of up to two inches of snow and sleet across central and western Oklahoma. Roads, bridges, and overpasses are already slippery — especially across Mustang, El Reno, and Moore — and conditions may worsen through midday as additional light bands of precipitation move through.
Meteorologists urge drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and allow longer stopping distances. Even minor accumulations can cause loss of traction where pavement remains below freezing. Temperatures will begin rising by mid-afternoon, helping melt off slush before a calm and sunny Friday.
After the messy start, the pattern turns mild: highs climb back into the upper 40s Friday and near 50°F by Saturday, under mostly sunny skies. By Sunday, cooler air returns, though travel conditions should remain favorable heading into early next week.
Five-Day Outlook (Central Oklahoma):
- Thursday: Snow and sleet until 3 PM, high 35°F.
- Friday: Sunny, high 48°F.
- Saturday: Mostly sunny, high 52°F.
- Sunday: Partly cloudy, high 43°F.
- Monday: Sunny, high 49°F.
