Tulsa drivers could face slick roads and flooding as a wave of thunderstorms pushes into Oklahoma through Monday and Tuesday. Emergency officials urge residents north of I-40 to watch for dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, and possible flash flooding late Sunday into early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, storm activity will begin overnight Saturday, building into a stronger system by Sunday night. Storms may bring heavy rain, frequent lightning, and isolated hail, especially in northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. By Monday morning, widespread showers and thunderstorms could cause travel delays across highways including I-40, I-44, and U.S. 75.

Localized flooding remains the top concern. Low-lying neighborhoods and rural roads north of Tulsa may see quick water rises, especially with repeated heavy rainfall through Tuesday. Some storms may also produce damaging winds. Residents are advised to avoid driving across flooded roads, charge devices ahead of possible outages, and limit unnecessary travel during peak storm hours.

Rain chances stay high through Tuesday, tapering off slightly by midweek. Cooler temperatures will follow, with highs closer to seasonal averages. While storm intensity should ease by Wednesday, additional rounds of showers are possible into Thursday.

Warnings and advisories could be extended if rainfall totals exceed early estimates. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency managers for the latest alerts.
