Oklahoma City, OK – Summer storms and steamy heat are on tap for Oklahoma this weekend as a muggy air mass keeps conditions unsettled. Daytime highs in Oklahoma City could hit 93°F Saturday, with heat index values near 99°F and scattered thunderstorms expected after 1 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a 20% chance of storms will linger into Saturday night, followed by mostly sunny skies Sunday. Highs will climb again to 94°F with another round of afternoon storms possible Monday and Tuesday. South winds around 10 mph will continue to pull in moisture, fueling both the heat and daily thunderstorm chances.
Drivers along I-35 and I-44 should stay alert for sudden downpours or lightning, especially during peak travel times Saturday and Monday. Lightning, gusty winds, and brief heavy rain could create dangerous road conditions in and around Oklahoma City, Norman, and Edmond.
The brief lull in storm activity on Sunday may offer the best window for outdoor plans, but it will still be hot. Hydration, sunscreen, and shade are musts for anyone outdoors. Early next week, another round of showers is possible heading into the Fourth of July.
