Oklahoma City, OK – Drivers across central Oklahoma should brace for soaked commutes and rising water levels as a Flood Watch stays in effect through 7 a.m. Wednesday, with up to 4 inches of rain expected in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, widespread thunderstorms Tuesday night will deliver 1 to 2 inches of rainfall, with locally higher amounts pushing 3 to 4 inches, particularly in low-lying areas along I-35 and I-40. The heavy rain could lead to flash flooding in cities including Norman, Oklahoma City, Ardmore, and Lawton, as well as creeks and tributaries across Cleveland, Payne, Pottawatomie, and Pontotoc counties.
Residents should avoid driving through flooded roadways and monitor local alerts closely. Fast-rising water may also impact rural roads and areas near rivers and streams, especially in southern and central parts of the state.
Conditions improve by late Wednesday morning as rain moves out and drier air returns. However, more storms could develop later this week.
