Oklahoma – Warm sunshine spills across central Oklahoma this morning, and it already feels more like late April than early March. A strong spring warm spell pushes temperatures toward the mid-80s today, but shifting weather will bring rain and cooler air into Oklahoma City by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, sunny skies will drive temperatures to about 86°F today with southwest winds between 14 and 18 mph, gusting near 28 mph. Those breezy winds will carry dry warmth across Oklahoma County and surrounding communities, including Edmond, Yukon, and Moore.

Clouds begin increasing later today as the atmosphere moistens across the southern Plains. Temperatures remain mild into the evening, hovering near 67°F, while winds stay active. Drivers along I-35, I-40, and the Kilpatrick Turnpike should expect steady crosswinds, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Storm chances begin building Tuesday afternoon as moisture deepens across Oklahoma. Scattered showers may begin after 1 p.m., though many areas remain dry through the daytime hours.

The more organized rain arrives Tuesday evening into early Wednesday. Meteorologists expect periods of showers and embedded thunderstorms, with rainfall coverage increasing across central Oklahoma including Norman, Midwest City, and Del City.

Rain could briefly reduce visibility on major corridors like I-44 and I-240, especially during the early Wednesday commute. Keep windshield wipers ready and allow extra travel time as roads become slick.

Behind the system, cooler March air quickly settles in. High temperatures Wednesday and Thursday fall back to around 66°F, a sharp drop from the early-week warmth but still comfortable for this time of year.

Sunshine returns late week, and temperatures rebound toward the upper 70s by Friday. Early signals also point to above-normal spring warmth expanding across the Plains next week, hinting that the season’s first sustained warm pattern may be approaching.

Spring break travel is ramping up nationwide through April, so travelers crossing Oklahoma highways should stay alert for shifting weather this week.
