Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Drivers across western and central Oklahoma could feel powerful crosswinds by late Tuesday morning as gusts climb to 55 mph and persist through sunset.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. CST Tuesday for much of central, northern, northwest and southwest Oklahoma, as well as parts of northern Texas. South to southwest winds will range from 25 to 35 mph, with peak gusts up to 55 mph during the afternoon.

Communities including Enid, Woodward, Lawton, Elk City, Clinton, Weatherford, Chickasha and Altus are expected to see the strongest winds between noon and 6 p.m. High-profile vehicles traveling along Interstate 40, Interstate 44 and U.S. 183 may encounter difficult handling, especially in open rural stretches.

Loose outdoor items could be blown several feet, and sporadic power outages are possible where tree limbs snap under repeated gusts. Blowing dust may also reduce visibility in far western Oklahoma and near the Texas border.

Residents should secure patio furniture, trash bins and lightweight equipment before mid-morning Tuesday. Winds are expected to ease after 8 p.m., though breezy conditions may continue into Tuesday night.
