Oklahoma’s December morning begins wrapped in a gray haze, headlights glowing faintly through thick fog that blankets the plains from Norman to Oklahoma City. Visibility has dropped sharply to near a quarter-mile in spots, making early travel across I-35, I-40, and U.S. 81 especially dangerous for commuters and long-haul drivers.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. CST. The thick fog stretches across much of central and southern Oklahoma into northern Texas, and residents are urged to slow down, use headlights, and keep extra distance on the road. The murky conditions could linger longer in low-lying and rural areas before clearing mid-morning.

After the fog lifts, skies brighten gradually through the afternoon as north winds usher in drier air and highs near the low 40s. Clearer and calmer weather returns Monday and Tuesday, with mild highs near 60 by midweek. For now, the quiet spell should hold through Thursday before a late-week system begins stirring across the central U.S.—potentially bringing early winter rain and a brief cold snap heading into next weekend.

Travelers should remain alert for patchy morning fog re-forming early Monday and Tuesday, especially along river valleys and open fields where overnight cooling can trap moisture.

Five-Day Outlook

Today (Sunday): Dense fog early, clearing later. High 43°F.
Monday: Mostly sunny, high 51°F.
Tuesday: Sunny and mild. High near 61°F.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high 59°F.
Thursday: Partly cloudy, highs upper 50s.
