Tulsa, Oklahoma – Residents across northeast and north-central Oklahoma are on alert for a line of intense thunderstorms capable of producing destructive wind gusts up to 80 mph. The fast-moving storm system prompted a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for a large area that includes Tulsa, Stillwater, and Enid until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, a bowing cluster of thunderstorms is racing southeast across the state, posing a significant threat for damaging winds. The watch, effective since 4:20 a.m. CDT, covers 16 counties, including Tulsa, Osage, Payne, Creek, and Washington counties, impacting over 1.3 million people.

In addition to the potential for significant wind damage, the storms could also produce isolated hail up to the size of quarters and frequent lightning. Forecasters noted the storm cluster is expected to weaken as it moves further south but urged residents in the watch area to remain vigilant.

Officials advise securing loose outdoor items, such as patio furniture and trash cans, that could become projectiles in high winds. Motorists, especially those in high-profile vehicles, should consider delaying travel until the storms pass. Power outages are possible due to downed trees and power lines.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 10 a.m. CDT. Residents should have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and be prepared to take shelter if a warning is issued for their specific location.
