Oklahoma City, OK – Drivers across westbound Interstate 40 faced major danger Thanksgiving night after a box truck allegedly weaved across all lanes at roughly 20 miles per hour, prompting a high-risk police pursuit that extended across several Oklahoma City highways.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), Troop A received multiple calls around the Morgan Road area as congestion backed up behind the slow-moving truck. Trooper Randy Rumley located the vehicle and attempted a stop, but the driver reportedly ignored commands and continued toward OCPD officers who attempted to place stop sticks along the roadway.

OHP reports the driver allegedly threw items from the cab during the pursuit and nearly overturned the vehicle several times. The danger escalated when the truck entered the Kilpatrick Turnpike, then exited onto Wilshire Boulevard and began driving westbound in the wrong direction, heading straight into oncoming traffic. Troopers said all options were on the table as the risk to the public surged.

According to OHP, Trooper Rumley twice attempted to push the truck off the roadway. His second maneuver succeeded, using the truck’s own weight and momentum to force it into a ditch and bring the vehicle to a stop.

Even after the crash, the driver allegedly refused lawful commands. Troopers deployed pepperballs into the cab before the suspect surrendered. Authorities said they believe the driver was under the influence of multiple narcotics and transported him to a hospital for treatment.

Once cleared medically, troopers planned to book the driver on multiple offenses, including assault with a dangerous weapon, felony eluding, running a roadblock, failure to maintain a single lane, and felony DUI.

OHP thanked Oklahoma City Police, the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office, and Yukon Police for assisting with the response.
