Norman, OK – A tornado watch remains in effect for parts of Oklahoma and northern Texas until 5 a.m. CST Tuesday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning of potential severe storms overnight.
According to the NWS Norman office, the tornado watch covers 30 counties in Oklahoma and 28 counties in Texas, including major cities such as Oklahoma City, Norman, Lawton, Wichita Falls, and Abilene. The affected areas face threats of tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and large hail as storms move through the region.
Residents are advised to stay vigilant as conditions could quickly escalate. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has warned that the strongest storms may produce tornadoes and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph. Heavy rainfall could also lead to localized flooding in some areas.
Authorities urge residents to monitor local weather alerts and have a plan in place in case tornado warnings are issued. Those in mobile homes or vulnerable structures should consider seeking sturdier shelter.
The tornado watch is set to expire at 5 a.m. CST but may be extended or upgraded depending on storm developments. Stay tuned to local weather stations or the NWS for the latest updates on severe weather conditions overnight.
