Oklahoma residents near the Texas border felt a brief jolt early Sunday after a magnitude 3.4 earthquake struck just west of Springer.

The quake hit at 4:50 a.m. CST, about 3 kilometers west of Springer, Oklahoma, at a shallow depth of just 0.2 kilometers. The epicenter sits north of the Red River and roughly between Oklahoma City and Dallas.

According to the Oklahoma Geological Survey and regional seismic data, the tremor registered as a light but noticeable shaking event. Shallow quakes like this often feel stronger near the epicenter because the energy has less distance to travel to the surface.

No immediate reports of damage or injuries have surfaced. However, residents across southern Oklahoma and parts of North Texas may have felt a quick rumble or heard windows rattle.

While a 3.4 magnitude quake is considered minor, its shallow depth can increase the perception of intensity locally. Aftershocks are possible but typically remain weaker than the main event.

Emergency officials are not reporting infrastructure impacts at this time. Still, residents should secure heavy objects and review earthquake safety steps, especially in areas with recurring seismic activity.

Seismologists continue monitoring the region. Have you felt shaking in your area this morning?
