Tulsa, Oklahoma – Midday heat could peak near 100° across eastern Oklahoma Thursday, with isolated thunderstorms possible by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, dangerous heat and scattered storms may develop Thursday afternoon, especially southeast of I-44. While severe weather isn’t expected, lightning and high humidity will raise concerns for outdoor workers, drivers, and residents across Tulsa, Muskogee, and Fort Smith.

Heat index values will climb into the upper 90s and low 100s by 3 p.m., making it feel significantly hotter than the actual temperature. Residents are urged to limit strenuous activity between 2 and 6 p.m., drink plenty of water, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.

Thursday’s high in Tulsa is expected to reach 94°, with south winds increasing to 10 mph. Thunderstorm chances return Friday afternoon (20%) and again through the weekend, particularly late Sunday into Monday as a front sags south from Kansas and Missouri.

No hazardous weather is expected Thursday morning, and no watches or warnings have been issued. However, lightning remains a risk in isolated storms Thursday afternoon and evening.
