Tulsa, Oklahoma – Storms are set to drench eastern Oklahoma this week as a slow-moving system brings a high chance of heavy rainfall and thunder beginning Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, there is an 80% chance of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday, with thunderstorms likely to continue through at least Thursday morning. While severe weather risk is currently limited, the potential for locally heavy rain may lead to ponding or flash flooding in poor drainage areas.

Storms are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon, with the heaviest activity occurring overnight and into early Wednesday. Winds may gust up to 20 mph with stronger storms. Motorists on I-44, U.S. 75, and the Creek Turnpike should be cautious during commutes, especially late Tuesday into early Wednesday, when rainfall rates could be highest.

By Wednesday afternoon, another round of storms is possible, with an additional 80% chance of precipitation into Thursday. Though the threat of severe storms is marginal, the extended duration of rain may saturate soils and elevate flood risk.
