Tulsa, OK – A volatile spring pattern returns to Oklahoma starting Thursday, bringing thunderstorm threats and fire danger to Tulsa and surrounding areas along I-44.
The National Weather Service in Tulsa warns that periods of thunderstorms will develop late Thursday and continue into the weekend, especially near and southeast of I-44. Isolated storms are expected Thursday night, increasing in coverage by Friday. Winds could gust up to 25 mph, further raising fire risks in northeast Oklahoma. Those living near dry brush or planning outdoor burns should take immediate precautions.
According to the National Weather Service, storms Thursday will coincide with a very high fire weather potential—a dangerous combination. Friday through Sunday, scattered thunderstorms and high wind potential persist across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. The most intense weather will occur south of I-44 and closer to the Red River.
Though no severe outbreaks are forecast at this time, storms may still bring heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. Motorists on I-44 and US-69 should prepare for possible reduced visibility and slick roads during storm periods.
