Tulsa, OK – Residents of eastern Oklahoma and northwestern Arkansas should prepare for the potential of severe weather this weekend, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning of quarter-sized hail and strong winds from Saturday night into Sunday.
According to the NWS Tulsa office, a storm system moving through the region will increase the likelihood of thunderstorms late Saturday night, with peak storm activity expected between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. The primary concerns include large hail, with some areas possibly seeing hailstones as large as quarters, as well as gusty winds exceeding 60 mph. While the risk of tornadoes remains low, residents should stay alert for changing weather conditions.
Forecast models indicate that cities such as Tulsa, Muskogee, Bartlesville, Fayetteville, and Fort Smith could experience storm activity during this period. Rainfall chances are expected to increase along a frontal boundary, with isolated severe storms developing across the region.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects, park vehicles in covered areas if possible, and stay updated on local weather alerts. In case of severe storms, move to an interior room away from windows.
The NWS recommends monitoring weather updates and having an emergency plan in place as the weekend storm system approaches.
