Oklahoma City, Okla. – A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for much of central and southern Oklahoma until 11 p.m. Saturday, with damaging winds and large hail posing the greatest threats for residents from Woodward to Norman.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, 25 counties—including Oklahoma, Cleveland, Grady, and Canadian—are under the watch as clusters of strong storms develop across the region. Wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail are possible, particularly along I-35 and Highway 81 corridors.

Areas such as Oklahoma City, Edmond, and Lawton may see rapid storm intensification through the evening hours. Power outages and tree damage are likely in areas experiencing stronger cells. Emergency managers urge residents to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay near shelter as storms approach.

Local emergency alerts will be issued if storms strengthen or rotate. While no tornado warnings are currently in effect, conditions remain favorable for severe weather development into late evening.

The storm system is expected to move eastward overnight, with isolated storms lingering into early Sunday morning.
