Beaver, Oklahoma – Residents across the Oklahoma Panhandle could face a high-impact winter storm beginning Friday afternoon, with heavy snow and dangerous travel conditions expected to worsen through Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for Beaver County and surrounding areas of the Oklahoma Panhandle. Snow totals could reach up to 10 inches, with snowfall intensifying Friday evening and continuing overnight into Saturday. The storm may produce periods of reduced visibility as winds increase, leading to blowing snow and drifting on open roads.
Travel is expected to become hazardous, particularly on U.S. 64, U.S. 270, and other rural highways. Bridges and overpasses are likely to ice over quickly, and road conditions could deteriorate rapidly during the Friday evening and early Saturday travel periods.
Residents are encouraged to postpone non-essential travel, prepare vehicles with winter emergency kits, and ensure phones and backup power sources are fully charged. If travel is unavoidable, motorists should plan for delays and use extreme caution.
Cold temperatures will accompany the snowfall, increasing the risk of frostbite for those outdoors. Dressing in layers and covering exposed skin is strongly advised.
Snowfall amounts and impacts may shift as the storm approaches, and upgrades to winter storm warnings are possible. Additional updates are expected through Friday as confidence in the storm’s track and intensity improves.
