Oklahoma City, OK – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) has announced major results from its second “Operation Guardian” enforcement along Interstate 40, leading to dozens of arrests and multiple warrant discoveries during a 15-hour sweep last week.
According to the OHP, troopers focused on the eastern corridor of I-40, targeting criminal activity within commercial motor vehicle (CMV) traffic. Over 500 traffic contacts were made, including 209 CMV inspections. The operation resulted in 70 immigration-related arrests, with 34 CMV drivers taken into custody.
Among those arrested, one suspect had an active Interpol warrant, while another was wanted on a felony burglary charge. Authorities reported that several of the detained individuals had prior criminal histories involving DUI, domestic assault, and other offenses.
Individuals arrested during the operation originated from more than 20 countries, including India, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, Venezuela, and Mexico. Three people were also taken into state custody on additional criminal charges.
Commissioner of Public Safety Tim Tipton stated, “Through these emphases along I-40, we’re sending a strong message to the trucking industry that America demands safe and legal commercial drivers. In Oklahoma, we will vigorously enforce these laws to keep Oklahomans safe along our highways and interstates.”
OHP emphasized that Operation Guardian will continue along the I-40 corridor, one of the nation’s most heavily traveled freight routes, as part of an ongoing effort to ensure safety and compliance.
