Ardmore, OK – An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper is recovering in the hospital after being injured during a police pursuit that ended in a fiery crash Wednesday evening.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the incident began just before 5 p.m. when Ardmore Police requested assistance with a pursuit on Interstate 35 near the 33-mile marker. The suspect’s vehicle later moved eastbound on US-70 before heading south on US-77, where Trooper Hayden Darst #447 became the lead unit in the chase.

Authorities say Trooper Darst attempted a tactical vehicle intervention near US-77 and Sunny Ridge. At that point, the suspect allegedly rammed Darst’s patrol vehicle, forcing both cars to crash. Trooper Darst’s vehicle then caught fire.

The Ardmore Police Department and other first responders quickly pulled Trooper Darst from the burning vehicle, officials said. He was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was arrested on scene, taken to a hospital for treatment, and later booked into the Carter County Detention Center.

OHP expressed gratitude to Ardmore officers and the Oklahoma First Responder Wellness Division for supporting Darst and his family during the incident.

This marks one of several recent high-risk pursuits in southern Oklahoma, highlighting the dangers officers face while attempting to protect public safety.
