Tulsa, Oklahoma – Dangerous heat will once again grip Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas today, with heat index values soaring to 110°F and a chance for isolated afternoon thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a Heat Advisory is in effect from noon until 8 p.m. Wednesday for the entire region. Actual air temperatures will reach 97–102°F, but “feels like” temps may exceed 111°F, especially in urban areas like Tulsa, Muskogee, and McAlester. The advisory also covers parts of Northwest Arkansas including Fayetteville and Bentonville.

Isolated thunderstorms could develop between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Boston Mountains of NW Arkansas and the Ouachita Mountains of Southeast Oklahoma. While storms aren’t expected to be severe, brief heavy rain, gusty winds, and cloud-to-ground lightning are possible. Outdoor plans in higher terrain areas should include shelter options.

Officials urge residents to stay indoors during peak heat, check on vulnerable neighbors, and ensure pets have access to shade and water. Hydration and frequent A/C breaks are essential.

More advisories may follow if heat persists into Thursday. Updates will be posted throughout the day.
