Norman, Okla. – Much of Oklahoma will bake under dangerous heat this Sunday afternoon, with heat index values climbing to 109°F across central and southern parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 1 to 7 p.m. CDT Sunday. The warning covers a broad swath of Oklahoma, from Harper and Woods counties in the north to Bryan and Love counties along the Texas border. Portions of north Texas, including Wichita Falls and Vernon, are also affected.

Residents in Oklahoma City, Lawton, Norman, and Ardmore can expect the most intense heat during the mid-to-late afternoon hours. High humidity levels will compound the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially for those without access to cooling or hydration.

Outdoor activities should be limited to early morning or late evening hours. Health officials recommend staying indoors in air-conditioned spaces, drinking water regularly, and checking on elderly neighbors. Lightweight clothing and frequent breaks are essential if working outside.

The advisory expires at 7 p.m., but another round of heat warnings may follow as the region enters its hottest stretch of summer.
