Tulsa, OK – Storms carrying the potential for damaging winds and hail could disrupt the Wednesday morning commute across the Tulsa metro. A lingering cold front is set to trigger another round of potentially severe weather, impacting residents in Tulsa, Rogers, and Wagoner counties before sunshine returns just in time for the Juneteenth holiday. Drivers should prepare for challenging conditions during the early hours.

According to the National Weather Service office in Tulsa, showers are likely, with a possible thunderstorm before 7 a.m. Wednesday. The overall chance of precipitation stands at 60%, creating wet and potentially hazardous road conditions for drivers on major arteries like I-44 and the Broken Arrow Expressway. The main threats associated with this system are strong wind gusts and hail.

Residents should consider securing loose outdoor objects, such as patio furniture and trash bins, to prevent them from becoming projectiles. After the morning storm activity subsides, skies are expected to become partly sunny, with temperatures reaching a high near 85 degrees. This sets the stage for a much calmer and more pleasant day on Thursday.

A beautiful and sunny day is anticipated for the Juneteenth holiday, with a comfortable high near 89 degrees providing ideal conditions for outdoor celebrations. This break will be short-lived, however, as a significant shift in the weather pattern is on the horizon. The NWS warns that dangerous heat is expected to build back into eastern Oklahoma for the weekend.

By Friday and Saturday, sunny skies will help push temperatures to around 93 degrees. This heat wave is expected to continue into early next week, increasing the risk of heat-related health issues. Oklahomans should plan ahead by staying hydrated, checking on vulnerable neighbors, and limiting strenuous activities during the hottest part of the afternoon. No heat advisories have been issued yet, but residents should remain alert as the weekend approaches.

Tulsa’s Five-Day Outlook:

  • Tuesday: High near 92°F with a 30% chance of thunderstorms.

  • Juneteenth: High near 89°F under sunny skies.
