Oklahoma City, OK – Urban streets, rural creeks, and flood-prone zones across Oklahoma could overflow today as heavy rainfall continues to sweep the region, keeping a Flood Watch in effect until 1 p.m. CDT.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, excessive rainfall overnight and early this morning has heightened the risk of flash flooding across a broad stretch of the state — from the Panhandle through central Oklahoma — and into northern Texas. Affected counties include Oklahoma, Cleveland, Canadian, Payne, and Comanche in Oklahoma, and extend into Wilbarger, Wichita, and Clay counties in Texas.

Cities like Oklahoma City, Lawton, Norman, and Enid have seen steady rain since late Saturday, with saturated soils now unable to absorb additional water. Local streams, underpasses, and poor drainage areas may flood quickly. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid driving across water-covered roads and to monitor creek levels in flood-prone neighborhoods.

TXDOT and ODOT crews are on alert for road closures. Residents should prepare for delays and power interruptions, and consider relocating equipment or livestock from low-lying areas.

Rain is expected to taper off this afternoon, but saturated ground could keep water levels elevated into the evening. Additional advisories may follow if thunderstorms redevelop.
