Norman, OK – The National Weather Service in Norman has expanded a Flood Watch for much of Oklahoma and parts of northern Texas, in effect through Saturday afternoon as multiple rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected.

The Flood Watch covers a wide area including Oklahoma City, Norman, Lawton, Stillwater, Enid, Ardmore, Ada, Duncan, and Durant, as well as Clay County, Texas. Forecasters warn that excessive rainfall could lead to flooding of creeks, streams, and low-lying areas, particularly where storms repeatedly track over the same locations.

According to meteorologists, rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are possible across central and southern Oklahoma, with localized amounts exceeding 5 inches. The heaviest rain is expected Friday morning through Saturday afternoon, though scattered thunderstorms may persist into the evening.

Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to monitor forecasts closely, avoid driving through flooded roads, and move to higher ground if flooding develops. Urban flooding may also impact travel in metro areas such as Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

The watch includes more than 25 counties across northern, central, and southern Oklahoma, highlighting the potential for widespread flash flooding and river rises through the weekend.
