Tulsa, Oklahoma – Heavy rain could trigger localized flooding across southeast Oklahoma on Tuesday, with some areas receiving up to 2 inches by nightfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a Flood Watch is in effect for Pushmataha and Choctaw Counties from 7 a.m. to midnight Tuesday. Rainfall amounts are expected to range between 0.5 and 1.5 inches across much of eastern Oklahoma, with the heaviest bands focused near the Red River, where totals may exceed 2 inches.

Cities such as Hugo and McAlester are likely to see rain begin in the late morning, with precipitation chances peaking between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., reaching up to 85% in some areas. Tulsa and Fort Smith will also experience high rain chances during the evening commute, increasing the risk of ponding on roads and poor visibility.

Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads, especially in flood-prone zones, and to delay non-essential travel during peak rainfall hours. Residents in affected areas should secure outdoor items, clear storm drains, and keep phones charged in case of emergency alerts.

The rain threat diminishes overnight, but the Weather Service warns additional advisories could be issued if flooding conditions worsen.
