Tulsa, OK – A flood warning has been extended for the Poteau River near Panama, with minor flooding occurring and more expected until late Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, the river stage at 7:30 PM CDT on Monday was 32.1 feet, surpassing the flood stage of 29 feet. The river is predicted to fall below flood stage by Tuesday morning.
The flooding has impacted agricultural lands and local roads. At 31 feet, minor flooding affects farm areas, and Williams Road east of Panama is submerged. As the river rises to 33 feet, moderate flooding affects areas between Shady Point and Arkoma, along with more local farm roads.
Residents in Le Flore County are urged to monitor the situation closely as the river’s water levels continue to recede. Emergency services recommend avoiding flooded roadways and remaining informed through official weather updates.
