Norman, OK – A dangerous heatwave is set to grip Oklahoma this week, with temperatures soaring to triple digits across the state. Starting today, the heat is expected to intensify, bringing heat index values well above 100°F, potentially posing significant health risks.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, the heatwave will peak midweek, with daily high temperatures reaching between 101°F and 108°F across various parts of Oklahoma. On Tuesday, much of the state will experience oppressive heat, particularly in areas like Woodward, Lawton, and Oklahoma City. The heat will continue into Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures consistently exceeding 100°F, creating hazardous conditions for outdoor activities.
A summertime cold front is expected to pass through on Friday, bringing a much-needed cooldown. Highs will drop to the lower 90s, offering some relief from the extreme temperatures. By Saturday, temperatures are anticipated to return to more seasonally normal levels, with highs in the mid-80s and a chance of rain providing additional respite from the heat.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, such as staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities, and checking on vulnerable individuals during this period of extreme heat. The heatwave’s impact is expected to lessen by the weekend, but the coming days will require vigilance and preparation.
