Guthrie, Oklahoma – A minor earthquake shook parts of central Oklahoma early Sunday morning, with a 2.5 magnitude tremor recorded just 8 kilometers east of Guthrie around 1:30 a.m. local time.
According to the Oklahoma Geological Survey, the quake struck at a shallow depth of 3.1 kilometers and was centered near Logan County. While no injuries or damage have been reported, four individuals submitted “Did You Feel It?” reports indicating light shaking.
Residents in Guthrie and along I-35 may have felt brief vibrations, especially in upper-level buildings or mobile homes. The quake’s shallow depth increased the likelihood of it being felt locally, despite its low magnitude. No emergency alerts were issued, and state emergency management is not reporting any infrastructure impacts.
Oklahoma experiences frequent small quakes, particularly in central and northern regions where seismic activity has increased over the past decade. Sunday’s tremor is considered minor but serves as a reminder to review basic earthquake safety, such as securing heavy furniture and knowing safe spots in your home.
More seismic activity is possible in the area, though no additional quakes have been recorded in the immediate aftermath.
