Calumet, Oklahoma – A minor earthquake struck just east of Calumet early Wednesday morning, briefly rattling parts of Canadian County but causing no reported damage.

According to the Oklahoma Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.5 earthquake occurred at 1:32 a.m. CT about 5 kilometers east of Calumet, with a shallow depth of 2.2 kilometers. While no citizen reports have been submitted as of 8 a.m., local agencies are monitoring for aftershocks.

The tremor originated roughly 40 miles west of Oklahoma City and is part of a broader seismic pattern that has affected central Oklahoma in recent years. Although minor, shallow quakes like this can sometimes be felt near the epicenter, especially in rural areas with less ambient noise or structural dampening.

Residents near Calumet and El Reno are advised to report any shaking or unusual structural movement to the U.S. Geological Survey’s “Did You Feel It?” portal. No emergency alerts or infrastructure issues have been issued.

While Wednesday’s quake is considered low-risk, Oklahoma remains one of the most seismically active inland states due to both natural faults and wastewater injection activity. Officials say no additional quakes have been detected in the area within the past 24 hours.
