Prague, Oklahoma – A light earthquake was recorded east of Oklahoma City on Wednesday afternoon, registering a magnitude 2.5 near Prague.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey and the Oklahoma Geological Survey, the quake occurred at 3:09 p.m. local time about 9 kilometers northwest of Prague at a depth of 7.2 kilometers. The event has been reviewed by seismic officials.
The epicenter was located in Lincoln County along the I-40 corridor, roughly 50 miles east of downtown Oklahoma City. Earthquakes of this magnitude are typically brief and may feel like a short rumble or vibration, mainly near the source.
No damage or injuries have been reported. A 2.5 magnitude quake is considered minor and rarely causes structural impacts, though it can be detected by monitoring equipment across the region.
Oklahoma remains one of the most seismically active states in the central United States. Residents who felt shaking can report it through the USGS “Did You Feel It?” website as officials continue monitoring for any additional activity.
