Oklahoma City, OK – Residents should prepare for one more day of triple-digit heat on Sunday before storm chances return early next week. Heat index values could reach as high as 103 degrees, with little relief until late Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Sunday for Oklahoma, with sunny skies and highs near 100°F expected. Winds from the south at 10 to 14 mph may provide minimal cooling, and gusts could reach 23 mph. By Sunday night, a 30 percent chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms will develop, mainly after 1 a.m.
Monday’s high near 90°F will feel cooler, but increasing cloud cover and a 40 percent chance of afternoon storms could impact commutes and outdoor activities. The pattern stays unsettled into midweek, with the best chance for widespread rain arriving Monday night into Tuesday.
Outdoor plans Sunday should be kept brief during peak heat, and residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity, and keep pets indoors. Storms early next week could bring brief downpours and lightning hazards.
