Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Sweltering temperatures return to central Oklahoma Tuesday, July 29th, as a dangerous heat wave pushes highs to near 100°F with heat index values topping 104°F by mid-afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Oklahoma County and surrounding areas, urging residents to avoid prolonged outdoor activity and stay well-hydrated.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, Tuesday’s heat will be driven by strong south-southwest winds and clear skies, creating oppressive afternoon conditions across Oklahoma City and the I-35 corridor. Temperatures are expected to peak between 3 and 5 p.m. Tuesday, making it the hottest day of the week.
Sunny skies will continue through midweek, with Wednesday reaching an even hotter 100°F before relief arrives Thursday. Although Thursday will see slightly cooler highs near 94°F, the humidity will remain elevated.
Residents are urged to:
- Avoid outdoor labor between noon and 6 p.m.
- Check on the elderly and pets.
- Use air conditioning or visit cooling centers if needed.
By Friday, Oklahoma enters a more unsettled pattern. Scattered thunderstorms could arrive as early as Friday night, continuing into the weekend. Rain chances increase through Saturday and Sunday, offering some potential cooling but also localized flooding risks.
