Oklahoma City, Okla. – Drivers across central Oklahoma should prepare for a wet and stormy Thursday as widespread showers and thunderstorms move across the metro. Heavy rainfall could slow the morning commute and continue into the afternoon before tapering by night.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, storms are most likely between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday, with a 70% chance of rain and the potential for a few thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch are possible. Winds will shift from the south to the northeast as storms push through, with gusts up to 10 mph.

Areas from Norman to Edmond and into Midwest City could see localized ponding on roads, especially during peak travel hours. Thursday night brings lingering showers with a 40% chance of additional storms before skies begin to clear.

Friday will start mostly cloudy with highs near 75, but drier air is expected by the weekend. Sunshine and warmer temperatures will return by Labor Day, with highs reaching the mid-80s through early next week.

Residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time Thursday and remain weather-aware as storms move through. Additional advisories could be issued if storms strengthen.
