Oklahoma City, OK – A Flood Watch remains in effect across much of Oklahoma through Tuesday morning, with heavy rain expected to cause dangerous travel conditions and possible river flooding. Storms will intensify late Monday into Tuesday, bringing the potential for 1 to 2 inches of rain, with isolated areas receiving more than 4 inches.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, the heaviest rainfall is likely overnight Monday into early Tuesday. Excessive runoff may flood creeks, streams, and low-lying roads across central, southern, and western Oklahoma, including Oklahoma, Cleveland, Canadian, Payne, and Pottawatomie counties. Drivers should be prepared for water-covered roadways during the Tuesday morning commute.

Residents in flood-prone areas should keep phones charged, avoid unnecessary travel, and never attempt to drive through flooded roads. The Weather Service warns that localized flash flooding could develop quickly, particularly near rural bridges and low crossings.

While rain chances diminish by Tuesday afternoon, heat will return midweek with highs climbing into the upper 90s by Friday. Additional weather alerts may be issued if rainfall totals exceed projections.
