Oklahoma — A gray blanket of low clouds lingers across central Oklahoma this morning, holding temperatures near 49°F with a damp chill in the air. While today stays quiet, storm energy is building to the west, setting up for an active Sunday night across Oklahoma City and the southern plains.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, skies clear briefly this afternoon before moisture surges north Sunday, bringing a 90% chance of rain and thunderstorms after sunset. A few storms could produce gusty winds and brief downpours, mainly along and south of I-40. Drivers heading out early for Thanksgiving travel should stay alert to wet pavement and low visibility after dark.

Rain tapers off early Monday, giving way to sunshine and milder weather through much of the week. Highs will climb into the mid-60s Monday and near 80°F Tuesday, creating perfect travel conditions for those hitting the road before Thanksgiving.

Looking nationally, a major cold front will begin sweeping across the U.S. on Thanksgiving Day, ushering in below-normal temperatures and possible snow from the Rockies to the Midwest. While Oklahoma remains on the warm side initially, cooler air could arrive next weekend as the winter pattern expands eastward.

Five-Day Outlook (Oklahoma City, OK):

  • Today: Partly sunny, high 60°F.
  • Sunday: Thunderstorms likely, high 65°F.
  • Monday: Mostly sunny, high 66°F.
  • Tuesday: Sunny, high 80°F.
  • Wednesday: Mostly clear, high 52°F.
