Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – A sharp chill is setting the stage across Oklahoma this morning as clear skies and light winds open the door to freezing temperatures. The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a Freeze Watch for much of the state, warning that sub-freezing lows could dip as low as 30 degrees between late tonight and early Sunday.
According to the Weather Service, the alert includes central, northwest, southern, and southwest Oklahoma—covering cities such as Norman, Yukon, El Reno, Chickasha, Pauls Valley, Ada, and Oklahoma City. Residents are urged to protect outdoor plants, wrap exposed pipes, and bring pets indoors. Sensitive vegetation and early winter crops could suffer frost damage if left uncovered.
Roadways are expected to remain dry, but early drivers Sunday may encounter frost on bridges and rural routes. The freeze marks the first widespread cold push of the season following a mild Halloween stretch. North winds ease through the day as skies clear, allowing radiant cooling to take hold before sunrise.
Sunday’s sunshine will quickly erase the morning frost, with highs rebounding into the mid-60s. By Monday, the state warms dramatically—temperatures rise into the lower 70s and continue climbing into the mid-70s by Tuesday. While this freeze signals winter’s first touch, no additional arctic air appears imminent through midweek.
For now, Oklahoma braces for its first hard chill of November—one cold morning before a warm, sunny comeback.
