Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – A rapid temperature swing is underway across the Oklahoma City area, transitioning from subfreezing mornings to near-60-degree daytime highs by midweek, according to the National Weather Service.
Early Tuesday conditions at Wiley Post Airport showed temperatures near 19°F, following a clear and calm overnight period. Despite the cold start, sunshine and increasing southwest winds are expected to push afternoon highs to around 54°F, marking a sharp rebound within hours.
The National Weather Service forecast indicates continued warming through Wednesday, with highs reaching near 59°F under sunny skies. Overnight lows will remain cool but moderate, dropping to the lower 30s, reducing the risk of widespread freezing after Tuesday morning.
By New Year’s Day, temperatures are expected to peak near 60°F, with partly sunny skies and light winds. This warming trend will continue into Friday, with highs again near 60°F, before slightly cooler—but still mild—conditions arrive this weekend.
No winter precipitation, ice, or snow hazards are anticipated during this period. Winds are forecast to remain generally light, limiting travel impacts across Oklahoma City and surrounding communities.
While the forecast does not include hazardous winter weather, the rapid temperature change may impact early-morning commuters and outdoor workers, particularly during freezing conditions early Tuesday. Residents are advised to dress for cold mornings while preparing for spring-like afternoons.
The National Weather Service reports no spotter activation is expected, and no watches or warnings are currently in effect.
Forecast conditions remain favorable for travel, outdoor activities, and holiday plans as temperatures stabilize well above freezing later this week.
