Union City, OK – A minor earthquake struck just northwest of Union City, Oklahoma, early Friday, briefly shaking the region near Oklahoma City. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude 2.7 tremor at approximately 5:53 a.m. local time.

According to USGS data, the quake originated about 9 kilometers west-northwest of Union City at a depth of 1 kilometer. The shallow depth likely intensified the tremor’s reach, although it was relatively minor. So far, there are no reports of damage or injuries from the quake.

Residents in the surrounding areas may have felt a slight jolt, but the tremor’s limited magnitude typically only causes light shaking. The USGS encourages anyone who felt the earthquake to report their experience, aiding in gathering community-based data for future seismic activity.

While Oklahoma has a history of seismic events, these smaller quakes are less likely to cause structural issues. However, they remind residents of the region’s mild but persistent seismicity.
