Oklahoma City, OK – Authorities recovered a missing 2-year-old at the U.S.-Mexico border in El Paso on Thursday morning.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Anthony Stroder was with his non-custodial mother, Katelyn Thornton, when Customs and Border Patrol stopped them at a border crossing station. Stroder had been the subject of an Endangered Missing Advisory issued on February 8.
Thornton allegedly failed to appear for a custody hearing. El Paso police detained her, while the child’s father received temporary emergency custody and is traveling to retrieve his son.
Law enforcement, including the Midwest City Police Department and federal agencies, worked together to locate the child. Authorities also searched for Aurelio Cardenas, who was listed in the advisory and has an active warrant in Potter County, Texas.
Officials have not released further details about potential charges against Thornton.
