Tulsa, OK – A strong cold front is bringing significant winter weather to Oklahoma this weekend, including snow, high winds, and freezing temperatures. Residents near I-40 and I-44 should prepare for travel disruptions and dangerously cold conditions starting Saturday evening.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tulsa, precipitation will begin Saturday as rain or drizzle before transitioning to snow by Sunday. Gusty winds up to 30 mph could create near-blizzard conditions in some areas, especially near the Kansas border. Snow accumulations are expected to remain light but may cause slick roads and reduced visibility on highways, particularly I-40 and I-44.
By Monday morning, temperatures will plunge into the single digits, with wind chills below zero in parts of northeastern Oklahoma. Areas near the Kansas border are at risk of severe wind chill impacts, which could lead to frostbite with prolonged exposure. Travelers should exercise caution and check road conditions before heading out.
The extended forecast shows highs in the mid-40s Friday and Saturday, dropping to 27 degrees by Monday. After a mostly dry and cold Tuesday, subzero wind chills could persist through the middle of next week.
Residents are urged to stock up on essentials and ensure outdoor pets have adequate shelter. Avoid unnecessary travel during peak snow and wind periods, and stay tuned to weather updates.
