Oklahoma – Bitter morning air grips eastern Oklahoma as the sun rises over Tulsa, with wind chills biting into the teens and dry grass rattling in gusty north winds. The cold start will not last long, but strong winds today could raise wildfire concerns across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, north winds will continue gusting between 25 and 35 mph through the afternoon, especially across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. These gusty conditions combined with dry vegetation may allow grassfires to spread quickly if one ignites.

Tulsa started the morning near 27°F at Tulsa International Airport, with wind chills falling close to 15°F during the early hours. Despite the sunshine, temperatures will only climb to about 42°F this afternoon, keeping the air crisp across the city.

Drivers along Interstate 44, U.S. Highway 75, and the Creek Turnpike should expect occasional crosswinds, especially on open stretches outside downtown Tulsa. High-profile vehicles may feel stronger gusts.

The wind threat gradually eases after sunset tonight as skies remain mostly clear.

Meteorologists are also tracking a sharp warming trend arriving quickly across Oklahoma. Winds will shift from the south by Tuesday afternoon, pulling warmer air into the region.

Temperatures jump to around 63°F Tuesday, then surge even higher by midweek.

By Wednesday afternoon, Tulsa could reach near 77°F under mostly sunny skies, a dramatic swing from the freezing start earlier in the week.

The warming trend continues late week with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 80s by Thursday and Friday, bringing a taste of early spring heat across eastern Oklahoma.

For now, avoid outdoor burning today and stay alert for sudden wind gusts.
